Get Booked as a Podcast Guest: How to Get More Podcast Interviews

Get Booked as a Podcast Guest

It’s time to start getting booked and stop getting overlooked! You are an author, expert, speaker, coach, entrepreneur, or all of the above. Your phone should be ringing off the hook. Your inbox should be full of interview requests, but no one seems to be reaching out to you. What can you do to move the needle if you are interested in getting more speaking engagements; specifically more opportunities to be interviewed on podcasts within your industry that target your ideal customers and clients? You can start by keeping things simple, following these five easy steps to secure more podcast interviews like a boss.

Get Social In 60

Take a minute (60 seconds) to post the following statement on your favorite social media platforms, “I’d like to do some podcast interviews this month. Drop me a comment if you have a show and are looking for guests.” Switch the words if you like, but keep the point the same to connect with podcasters in your immediate circle that you can work with. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover there are interview opportunities waiting for you in your own digital backyard. Just get your ASK in gear, put yourself out there, to attract podcast guest opportunities through your social media platforms. You can start with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter if you have these. I also recommend posting within social groups that you manage or have permission to post requests like this one.

Get Your Own Podcast

Buzz creates buzz. If you want more people to notice you, create your own podcast as a way to give them something to notice. It’s very common for podcasters like myself to get interview requests directly from listeners who like episodes of the show and want to invite you to speak on their platform.

Get a Podcast Pitch PDF Ready
Create a one-page document that includes a short bio, your headshot, and a few media highlights from your previous speaking engagements and interviews. Mention a few of your top topics and areas of expertise. If you have these also include a few links to your own podcast episodes or videos. Be sure to include your social media links, email address, and link to your main website. As a bonus, you can also include a link to a freebie offer that you like to share with listeners at the end of your podcast interview conversations. This is a handy document that you can share with creators for upcoming interviews when they need a media kit from you, but also use to pitch yourself for potential guest interview opportunities.

Make These Three Podcasts Lists

First, make a list of people you know who have podcasts and directly reach out to them expressing your interest in being on their show. As part of this list make note of shows that you’ve previously worked with for another possible guest feature. Second make a dream list of the podcasts that you would love to be interviewed on, then do your research. Some of these platforms offer guest submission opportunities or sponsored spots that you could easily tap into. Third, make a list of at least 3 types of podcasts you would like to feature on and start researching podcasters in those areas that you could begin listening to, reviewing their guest submission policies, and introducing yourself to the creators for a possible feature. Either create these lists and start doing the research or you can delegate this task to a VA, PR Agency or media manager on your team.

Become a Podcast Interviewer

Start to interview people and accept guests on your own podcast. Many people will reciprocate with an invitation to be featured in an interview on their platform. And most people appreciate the exposure so much that they will drive traffic to their interview on your platform, which will help get more exposure and new listeners too.
