Whencollege workstudy was over, I figured I’d put my business classes to the test to see if I learned anything! That was the beginning of Sky Sister Studio! Did you always want to be a Business Woman?
Being a “Business Woman” was not the lifestyle I pictured; I simply wanted as
much control of my own future as I could possibly get…Eventually I made the connection!
How would you describe your experience as a Black Entrepreneur?
My experience as a Black Entrepreneur has been has been as positive as I hoped it would be! The web allows the actual work to be the focus of attention, and the result has been an
awesome (always increasing!) level of efficiency and opportunity!
Looking back on your business decisions, is there anything that you would have done differently?
I definitely have a “no regrets” mindset looking back in terms of my business decisions – seemingly tough situations in business have led to fabulous outcomes!
Did you have any formal business training? Do you think this is important to be successful?
I have received some formal business training, and I do believe this is important to be successful. I don’t think an entrepreneur has to “go to college” but some
form of continuing education – whether it be career-specific training, workshops, or personal efforts to research and read up on business-related topics, etc. are things that everyone needs throughout life. Being sort of a life-long student along with the
“Business Woman” is the only way to avoid needless mistakes, inefficiency, and the worst: falling behind in business trends/tech/knowledge!
What funding sources have worked for you?
Sky Sister Couture operates “in the black” (as opposed to in the red). I have not
found a need to obtain loans. The collections are doing well in terms of sales, and this is 100% of the funding for Sky Sister Couture. I have no problem starting small – the time I put into the line versus the return I receive financially is the most important
ratio, and it’s working out beautifully.
How has family/friend support financially or otherwise affected your business efforts? Family and friends have been very supportive! I only associate regularly with positive people, and this has proven to be a crucial decision as an upcoming entrepreneur! You can’t have any whispers of outside doubt – from anyone – ever.
How do you work on making your business grow?
I focus on “polishing” Sky Sister Couture constantly – what can I do to make
the collections more interesting, more sturdy, more resilient? How can I make the presentation of Sky Sister Couture stand out even more? How can I design and position the ad campaigns to quickly capture her attention and make her realize Sky Sister
Couture is not “just another Indie brand”? This work is never done – there is always room for improvement and there is always a new way to answer these questions. I do limited advertising in various media forums. I blog. I also participate in link exchanges. It
seems to be such a cliche – networking – but it’s true! A million ads in the yellow pages won’t get me nearly as great a return as one of my happy clients telling a friend about my strangely glamourous cocktail rings!
What words of wisdom can you share with other business women?
The best advice I can share with other Businesswomen is to surround yourself with positive people in business and in general. Limit contact with the not-so-positive ones! Concentrate on your goals, your product, and your Brand. Live and let live!
I am so glad to have found this group, I had no idea about network marketing until one of my friends turned me onto the group networking. I love your responses to the questions asked. They are encouraging and motivating. You sound like you are definitely in the right place and that’s a wonderful thing. I know for sure now that I’m doing the right thing with networking. I love my business and I’m more than grateful for the person who told me about it.
