I cross posted the original post Internet Marketing Tips on Izania, and got some great response. Here is a post response that I wanted to share:

And if I may also add-

Realize that your offline brand should tie in with your ‘online’ brand. Be approachable, personable and as warm online as if you were dealing with the person face to face. People always buy from people they like, know and trust, price is always of secondary importance.

1. Have a presence on the internet, whether it’s a blog, a website or a social networking page i.e. myspace.com, facebook.com, linkedin.com And also don’t forget to fill in all the components of your izania profile. Make it personable and unique to you so that people will remember something about you (if they forget your name). When people hear about you in the offline world or read about you, hear you speak or see you featured in a newspaper etc. they often ‘validate’ you by searching for your name on the internet. Keep the interest going and make sure when they search for you 1. there is something there and 2. they will find something good when they search your name! They will wonder where they’ve been and usually try to initiate dialogue with you. Countless times, I have spoken at universities or other places where people felt the impact or remembered something I said months after and wanted to contact me to continue the dialogue. If they couldn’t find my card or contact info, the only way they knew how to reach me was search part of my name, the name of my topic or the place I spoke, through the web. And yes, they will often find me .

2. Expand your dialogue and network beyond ‘your personal friends’ and ‘all the dreamers’ in the world. Look for relationships with people who challenge you and hold you accountable. It is by reflecting on yourself that you are able to truly grow and excel personally and professionally.

3. Become a resource or industry expert. Once again, remember that the number one people buy is because they want to do business with someone they know and trust. So don’t be a small-minded crumudgeonly person. Share your knowledge and resources. When you have the attitude that others behind you should ‘struggle’ and experience first hand like you struggled, then you do a disservice not only to yourself, but to your forefathers and most importantly the generation behind us (which could potentially include your children, grandchildren). When you fail to pool your resources and share your knowledge and resources it means the next person has to START FROM THE BEGINNING! Remember when you were at the beginning? It wasn’t much fun to go at it alone was it?

4. Problems equal opportunities. Instead of walking away from problems, look for them. Think of the things that people struggle with in your industry. If you are having those problems, or your customers are having those problems, so are others. Once you figure out how to ‘do it’, document the steps and package it into an ebook, a cd, a special report or what have you. Then market it and sell it.

5. Did you capture me today? It takes so much work to get traffic and people to your website. My website is ranked Top 20% of all websites on the web because I have made it so that people want to continue coming back regularly. I make sure to put up new content every couple of weeks and respond to personal inquiries on my site. Make sure when visitors come to your site you have interesting and useful content (not just a website brochure) that makes them want to keep coming back and also have a way for them to enter their name and email if they want to keep in touch. Sending out a monthly newsletter with useful and timely information is an easy non obtrusive way to keep your name out there and at the same time build relationships with people who over time, come to like and know and trust you, which takes us back to the beginning.

You can be sure that business and internet marketing like many things in our life are based loosely on a formula and have somewhat of a cyclical nature about them.

So whenever you start and finish whatever you are working on eventually you are going to come full circle and realize there is no such thing as failure…only delayed gratification.

Love and Laughter-
Shonika
