Overcoming Anger and Negativity Today: The Election, Entrepreneurship, Life

sistasense-realtalk-realwom

8 Years ago after Obama was elected I wrote this post “The Dawn of a New Day“, which was inspired by our first black president and all the possibilities that the future held at that time. Today is different.

The day after this year’s election, when I learned that Donald Trump was elected I was truly disappointed by the results. I woke up with a pang in my stomach and a heaviness in my heart when I realized America did not place the first woman president in office. With Trump’s win, we now have some very uncertain, challenging, and scary times ahead of us.

Across the web and around the world, I see sadness, confusion, hurt, and anger from those who truly did not expect this to be the next phase in America’s future. As I paused and reflected on this as a mother, black woman, and American, I knew that I could not spend my day standing still. As an entrepreneur, I still have to work and as a mom, there are still life-home responsibilities that have to be tended to.

For these reasons, I thought this would be a good time for us to talk about what it means to overcome anger and turn negative feelings NOT into violence and chaos, but into positive thinking fueled by an internal power to push through and remain productive.
