  • What Step are you at? Making Strides in Your Online Business

    0

Entrepreneurs need to have a healthy dose of self-reflection every now and again. Last week I had you take my Rock the Web Self Assessment Test to discover if you were doing the 7 Crucial Activities required to build a successful online business. This week I want you to do the following:

    • Make a List of the Top 5 things you want to accomplish
    • Look at the above image
    • Answer the question: “Which step have you reached today?”

Sometimes we think ourselves out of opportunities and say we “won’t do something” that we might be able really good at. Sometimes we say we can’t do something, when all we really need is the right information to get us started. And sometimes we fill ourselves with enough “I think I can” motivation to slowly, but surely get the job done!

Following the SistaSense Road to Success be proactive about finding the right people to give kind of information and encouragement that you need to move foward. Wherever you are in your online business goals, take this time to acknowledge where you are, so you can move one step closer to where you want to be.

  • BBWO Member Dawn Fitch On the Cover of Black Enterprise

    2

Here is your dose of motivation, inspiration, smart woman in business information for today. Dawn Fitch, creator of Pooka Pure and Simple, natural bath and body products, member of Black Business Women Online is featured on the March 2012 cover of Black Enterprise Magazine.

I am so very proud of Dawn as I have followed her business growth over the past five years and personally spoken with her about the process we go through as women entrepreneurs. Its a hard and challenging run, but its our passion and as Dawn’s success shows this it is the path we must passionately take to full fill our destinies.

What is so crazy is I logged onto BBWO and Facebook today and saw the cover and thought, “WOW, this is wonderful.” It was only yesterday that I featured the Black Enterprise photo shoot of Dawn Fitch on BBWO and truth be told it was only a few days earlier that I had invited Dawn to speak about the Business of Beauty for our upcoming SistaSense Power Circle TeleSummit because I consider her to be one of the powerful business women to know in my circle.

I say all that to say several things. Creating BBWO has been a blessing for me on so many levels because being around ambitious, innovative women like Dawn Fitch is what helps to create the thriving, supportive, community that BBWO has become. Moreover, I can not express enough that I have watched her business grow. I have watched Dawn build the website, launch events, promote her products, share her expertise on BBWO, support other business owners, open her own boutique and now grace the covers of Black Enterprise Magazine.

Ladies and gents this is what determination, dedication, do or die motivation looks like. You have to live, breath, eat, dream, and keep on dreaming and this is just a part of the Pookalita Story one cover is not the end of what Dawn has in store for us to see. Two months blogging, a few days tweeting isn’t going to get you or your business where it needs to be. The ladies in my Power Circle grind out! They push when folks are watching and they push even harder when folks are not because that is what you have to do to turn your success into a reality. No one else is going to do this for you.

I can not over emphasize the significance of being on a space like BBWO because you never know who you are going to meet and who we all are working so hard to become! And I can not over stress the significance of participating in something like the SistaSense Power Circle TeleSummit because this is how you get access to real women entrepreneurs, black business women who have been through what you are going through and know exactly what you need to do to get to the next level. I honestly think folks who have not signed up for the power circle are crazy because this group of women give so much genuine, life changing, business transforming information for practically nothing you are spinning your heels, racking your brains for the answers not realizing the right people are right in front of you.

I look at Dawn’s success as a testament to my belief that if you put in the work this year is the year to make things happen … to see things happen! I am sending out a big virtual hug to Dawn Fitch for all her hard work and success (click here to share your congrats too)! The blessings are flowing and this Pookalitas story has just begun to be told! As for you, I hope to see you proactively networking on BBWO and soaking in ALL the information my Power Circle is going to give on our upcoming Power Circle Telesummit.

And FYI Social Networking is NOT joining a network, putting up a profile and hoping the ‘right people’ find you. As busy as she is Dawn has always proactively shared videos, how-to articles, and thoughtfully participated in conversations on BBWO. If you want people to know and support you then you better make it your business to start knowing and supporting other people. Let the Church say AMEN as I get off my soapbox for today. Stay blessed and ALL about Business. -LaShanda

  • You can Coach A Winning Team

    2

Entrepreneurs must be very thoughtful about making employees successful at work. Successful employees represent moving toward increased productivity and sales. As the employer why not give them the tools to be empowered and as successful as possible?

This is the question I had for myself when I began my new cookie business. When I hired my first employee I realized that she brought a lot of skills to our company but I needed her to truly believe in her own abilities. I needed her to shift her thinking about her limitations. I wanted her to believe that she could achieve and accomplish all goals. I had to believe this for my new business venture and my team had to have the same beliefs. We all had to be certain that we could accomplish anything.

We achieved this change in thinking because I used coaching techniques. Performing supervisory duties as a business owner to keep businesses running is essential. As a manager I wanted to invest my time in using coaching techniques because I knew that I needed to do more than manage. Learning to use these techniques helped me to teach people how to improve their decision-making and thinking process.

In life many people benefit from coaches. All great athletes are coached by a person willing to serve as guide for them. Michael Jordan, the Williams sisters, the NY Giants, and the list of strategically coached athletes goes on and on.

The coach’s role is very important in making an athlete perform at their peak level. The coach gives the athlete guidance and support on how to improve their performance. They help the athlete match their behavioral practices to the successful outcome that they envision for themselves during the competition. The coach acts as mirror for the person they coach, helping them to reflect on ways to improve their performance.

A coach can also guide a person with difficult life decisions and problems they face. This life coach provides strategies for a person during these times. This coach helps to empower people to be problem solvers.

An athletic coach, life coach, and business coach all have the same goals. They help their clients improve decision-making and problem solving.

Balancing coaching and managing is worth all of the effort that it takes. When people invest this time in their company it brings back many returns. In business, being the lead the problem solver is much better than solving all of the problems.

Attending the 2011 Women of Power Summit was exactly what I needed. I started the year feeling a little drained and jaded, but when I got back home I felt blessed, de-stressed, and ready to dive into new things. This year’s theme is “Your Truth, Your Power”. Looking back I can honestly say that I enjoyed the networking, the sisterhood, and being in the midst of the amazing women honored at the Legacy Awards Dinner. 2012 award recipients include Brandeis Professor Anita Hill, Bridal Fashion House Founder/Designer Amsale Aberra, News Journalist/Anchor, Carol Simpson, Philanthropist, Rachel Robinson and singer and AIDS activist, Dionne Warwick.

Some of the workshop sessions include:
    1. Managing Sabotage: How to fight the battles without losing the war.
    2. The Anti-Social Executive: How to step out of your comfort zone for career advancement.
    3. Risk Takers & Rule Breakers: How to be a game changer in your professional life.
