A few months back I told you how elated I was to see BBWO member Dawn Fitch co-founder of Pooka Pure and Simple Natural Body Products was on the cover of Black Enterprise. When I found out Dawn would be leading a session on Social Media at the Black Enterprise 20/20 Vision forum, I knew that I had to be there. Words really can’t express how personally gratifying it is to finally meet Dawn and some of the wonderful members of BBWO in person.

Dawn had a wealth of information to share on how she uses Social Media to boost sales, establish her brand presence online, market and even land the cover of BE. One of the first things she told us was how one simple tweet turned into the magazine interview that lead to her Black Enterprise Cover Story. As a matter of fact, a very similar situation via LinkedIn helped me get my first feature on BlackEnterprise.com and one Facebook Update lead to my first photo shoot with Ebony Magazine!

When used correctly social media platforms can help you turn into a PR machine at no cost and without an agent. If you were not able to attend this event and hear Dawn share her social media strategies watch the video clip below and then think about listening to my Blogging for Business workshop or Social Media Money Audio Series. If you want to use spaces like Facebook and Twitter to market your business, make brand connections or get media attention, you will need to know how to do it the right way.

At this BE Event Sponsored by Walmart Dawn talked about 3 simple things you can do to get started:

1. Pick a Platform that works for you
2. Create a System to Socializing with others and Sharing Your Information
3. Be Consistent

In both my video marketing and social media marketing audio series, I talk about:

1. How to Pick the Platform that Works Best for You
2. How to Manage Your Time and Avoid Spending Too Much Time on Social Websites
3. How to Create Attention Grabbing Content
4. How to drive traffic and subscribers back to your website
5. What Web Tools you can use to make the process easier
