  • You can Coach A Winning Team

Entrepreneurs must be very thoughtful about making employees successful at work. Successful employees represent moving toward increased productivity and sales. As the employer why not give them the tools to be empowered and as successful as possible?

This is the question I had for myself when I began my new cookie business. When I hired my first employee I realized that she brought a lot of skills to our company but I needed her to truly believe in her own abilities. I needed her to shift her thinking about her limitations. I wanted her to believe that she could achieve and accomplish all goals. I had to believe this for my new business venture and my team had to have the same beliefs. We all had to be certain that we could accomplish anything.

We achieved this change in thinking because I used coaching techniques. Performing supervisory duties as a business owner to keep businesses running is essential. As a manager I wanted to invest my time in using coaching techniques because I knew that I needed to do more than manage. Learning to use these techniques helped me to teach people how to improve their decision-making and thinking process.

In life many people benefit from coaches. All great athletes are coached by a person willing to serve as guide for them. Michael Jordan, the Williams sisters, the NY Giants, and the list of strategically coached athletes goes on and on.

The coach’s role is very important in making an athlete perform at their peak level. The coach gives the athlete guidance and support on how to improve their performance. They help the athlete match their behavioral practices to the successful outcome that they envision for themselves during the competition. The coach acts as mirror for the person they coach, helping them to reflect on ways to improve their performance.

A coach can also guide a person with difficult life decisions and problems they face. This life coach provides strategies for a person during these times. This coach helps to empower people to be problem solvers.

An athletic coach, life coach, and business coach all have the same goals. They help their clients improve decision-making and problem solving.

Balancing coaching and managing is worth all of the effort that it takes. When people invest this time in their company it brings back many returns. In business, being the lead the problem solver is much better than solving all of the problems.

  • Can I get my Reality TV with a heaping side of Entrepreneurship and hold the drama?

    0

Here is a great post I recently discovered from BBWO Member Artiatesia Deal:

Over the course of two years, my television habits have changed a lot. I found myself craving more and more scripted drama over Reality TV. It seems like it just one show with a ton of spin offs – the Kardashian Clan and their many shows, Housewives of X (pick a location/sport) and so on. Yes I am going to admit that I watch a few and was obsessed with them for a while but after figuring out their formula they got boring. For example I used to be a huge fan of MTV’s The Real World (the 1st reality show) but after a couple of seasons you figure that every cast is going to have at least one minority – whether its race, sexual orientation or religion. Just the right ingredients to stir up fights and lots of drama, then add alcohol to the mix and the main course is ready to serve.

There were a few shows that capture my attention and I am sad that most of them don’t last very long. This past weekend Centric (sister channel to BET) aired a marathon of Daddy Girl’s a spin off of Run’s House, which followed the lives of Vanessa and Angela Simmons (oldest daughters of Rev Run). I liked the show especially when we got to see how they grown their business Pastry from just a sneaker line but to include fashion as well. Why can’t see more reality shows that depict small business and entrepreneurship… [read entire post]

  • LATEST JEOPARDY CHALLENGE: WHAT IS UNBIG?

    0

Even if the newly-rolled out ad campaign for Daimler’s Smart car does not translate into phenomenal sales, it has certainly been hammering away at our ‘supersize-it’ mentality. New distributor for the Smart brand, Mercedes-Benz, is backpacking on the notion that every great idea eventually bombs—a fact being played out as the western world’s fatalistic love affair with consumerism. It’s this dance of death that has left the United States of America and a growing list of developed and developing nations glancing backwards at a trail of financial hardships and political mayhem.

So, are governments (and the rest of us) ready to sing our ‘big life’ swan song? Do most of us even know what it means to “unbig” ourselves? I hardly think so. What is perhaps more true is that we are hanging on to the old ways like a hoarder who—so in the grip of the disease will hyperventilate at the thought of parting with a roomful of useless beanie babies.

And timely though this campaign might be, what people everywhere may need, to go along with a desire to downsize, is a mind open to the possibilities of recouping some facet of life in a simpler time. “Open Your Mind,” is the tagline on the official website of the Smart car, www.smartusa.com, but here, the message is all about the brand: its fuel-efficiency, sensible price-point, customizability. So, this is our quandary: we are being asked to swap one fad for the next, to trade one corrugated lifestyle for another—equally damaged—just somewhat smaller.

Now, will we be like folks who remember the ‘green’ bags they’ve left in the car, at the precise moment they step up to the cashier’s counter, or will we take the challenge to commit to something good and true, and not forget what it is?

  • eBook Publishing: What's New in the the World of Kindle eBook Marketing

    1

Ebooks, or electronic books have been popular in the world of Internet marketing for years, but recently, with the exponential growth of electronic ebook readers such as the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble’s Nook, ebook sales have surpassed sales for hard cover books as the price for these ebook readers drops making them more affordable to a wider audience. The Kindle app, which is available on PCs, smartphones and tablets makes it possible to read Kindle titles without even needing to purchase the Kindle ebook reader device.

This represents an amazing opportunity for content publishers to gain a wider audience for their ebooks. It also represents a great opportunity for writers who are looking to get their books published and into the hands of readers.

If you have already created ebooks and you are selling them from your website, you can easily convert that content to the Kindle ebook format and offer them for sale in the Kindle marketplace. Amazon will take a percentage of the sale, but it works out great because you do not have to worry about generating traffic, dealing with customer service issues, or shipping books.

Another avenue for writers and content publishers is the Kindle Single, which is for shorter works from 10,000 to 30,000 words. Amazon describes a Kindle Single as, “a compelling idea – well researched, well argued, and well illustrated – expressed at its natural length.” Kindle Singles offer writers the chance to get their not-quite-booklength works out there so that they can find their audience. This is a new format and it will bear watching to see how popular these Singles turn out to be.

In addition to creating and selling your ebooks on Amazon, you can also sell subscriptions to your blog. Amazon will sell the subscription at either $.99 or $1.99. Subscribers can then access your blog directly on their Kindle as they are automatically delivered wirelessly with offline access to your blog posts.

Because of the rising popularity of the ebook format, there will be steeper competition for readers. Writers and publishers will need to create compelling titles and market them effectively in order to gain visibility in an increasingly crowded marketplace.
The first step for getting your content published and available on the Kindle platform is to open a free account at, kindlepublishing.amazon.com. After you set up your account there are tutorials and support forums inside that will help you to get your book properly formatted, uploaded and available for purchase.

Do you have ebooks that have been languishing on your site that could benefit from the additional exposure of the Kindle marketplace? Do you have an idea for an ebook that you’d like to publish, but don’t have the time or the desire to write it yourself? I have ghostwritten and published several titles for my clients on the Amazon Kindle, and I’d be glad to help you convert your existing ebooks to Kindle and get them uploaded and available for sale, or I’d be happy to discuss writing an ebook for you that you can publish on Kindle.
