SistaSense has been quiet lately, mainly because I have been behind the scenes working on web projects for clients like (one) and (two), but more importantly – working on building a strong local community of business professionals. Every business woman should have a power circle; a group of ambitious entrepreneurs she can both work with and exchange ideas with on a regular basis.
Over the years I have watched other women entrepreneurs and learned one thing to be true, “The business women who go further faster know how to work in teams, make connections, and leverage the people around them.” Getting ladies to come out and network sometimes feels like talking to a brick wall because 90% of the audience is maxed out, too busy trying to figure out how to promote they are all to often oblivious to the value of stepping away from the computer, walking out the door, and meeting people.
At my last social, The Tax Chick, Anissa Barbee told us she decided to attend my SistaSense Social and similar local events because she knew it was time to grow her business and she wasn’t go to grow without meeting new people. More over, I loved when she said, “If I am the smartest person in the room, I know it’s time for me to find a different room.”
Are you the “Smart One” telling everyone what to do and where to go? Keep in mind that you need to go places to and getting too the next level requires the expertise and support of other women who currently are where you want to be. At my last SistaSense mini-meetup we laughed and bonded over business, but we got down to business too. We talked about:
- Co-Hosting Local Business and Community-Based Events
- Using the WordPress Platform
- Individual Projects and Initiatives
- Local Vendors for T-Shirt Printing and Business Cards
- Mobile App Development
- Online Marketing Solutions
- Upcoming Local Events
Creating a Power Circle gives you the opportunity to share your business services, get advice, discover resources that can help you better develop your ventures and build relationships with other women who might opt to become your customers and clients or refer you to people in need of what you have to offer.
So if you don’t have a power circle, build one.
- Create a list of local women in your circle you would like to meet with on a regular basis
- Invite them to a meetup and find a venue (see what happens)
- If your circle is small (start where you are) – I built my circle from ladies within my web list that I knew were also NC Residents and we had worked together in the past
- Facebook is a Great Way to Find and/or Sift through your local Connections
- Meetup.com is a great platform to find local business meetup groups in your area
Also keep in mind that you don’t simply need to stay on your block, branch out and attend larger events across the country and around the globe.
