I’m still on a Blogalicious Buzz, so last night I felt compelled to do some more networking (but online of course). I decided to do my very first video chat! It was one of those random ideas that I like to call ‘brainfarts’. I had no clue what I was going to talk about or how it would work, BUT i wanted to give it a try.

I signed up for Ustream (here is my sistasense channel) and decided my first show (video replay below) would be: Blogalicious, Blogs, and Business: using social media to build your online business. In the video, I talked about some of things things I learned at Blogalicious like:

1. Even if you think people aren’t reading your blog because you don’t see as many comments as you would like, folks are still reading.

2. I talked about the importance of knowing at least 5 other sista-bloggers online so you have people who know you, connect, can bounce ideas off of, and also can exchange connections or collaborate with on projects (like my Blogalicious roomie and partner in positivity Nikki from the MommyFactor).

3. I talked about the power of social media and the amazing Blogalicous Session by James Andrews in which he discussed the Relationship Between Social Media and Television (video replay).

An example that the proof is truly in the pudding was the fact that over 100 people decided to come and watch my impromptu video chat last night from a few quick tweets, FB posts, and at about 8:45 (I started at 9pm BTW) I remembered to send out an email to my iContact subscribers).

As I talk about in detail in my SistaSense Circle audio sessions (download here) as an entrepreneur online your true objective is always to build your list, attract new customers, and keep your old customers happy. Taking the time to use social media to foster relationships with other people in my niche as well as taking the time to build my following (social lists) gives me my own new media portal. Like television, I can use my social spaces to send out information very quickly and at no cost. This is an especially important point to you, if you are still struggling with understanding and/or implementing social media strategies.

Thanks everyone for joining my video chat last night AND going to BBWO and posting your business / blog links. After you watch the video below (its about 1.5 hours), be sure to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on Ustream (do you like the quality). How often do you want to see these video chats from me? What topics would you like me to talk about? What did you think of the 1st session.

Also remember the easiest way to get my impromptu messages is to follow me on twitter and facebook.

Last thing, right now I have entered a Bedtime Story contest by NatureMade. I would appreciate it if you could read my story and vote for it. You can actually vote once a day if you really like me! I thank you in advice for your support. (link here).

Can so relate! I do a weekly live chat from my website every week. Some weeks I get LOTS of traffic and questions start coming in. Other weeks it’s completely dead LOL but I do it every week no matter what. I got the idea to do live “Ask the Accountant” video broadcast from Atlanta Insurance Live, I reached out to him for advice and he told me exactly what you said do it even if no one is watching. Consistency is key. He also said do it even if no one agrees with it or thinks it’s silly. It’s been great b/c it is allowing me to build my video library, work on getting better at presenting. I do it during the day even though i know evenings would probably be better. But I started with day so I could get comfortable first. Now that I’m getting better, I’ll be switching to evening, we’ll see!

I have a Ustream account, but I have been using Justin.tv/yoursimplebookkeeper and Justin.tv/katrinamharrell for the live broadcast. I didn’t get to catch your broadcast lastnight but I’m sure it was fantastic! I say continue to do it! I think it helps to expand your brand and bring you further into lives of the rest of us who follow you.

    LaShanda,

I know you love notes and preparing in advance, but I have to tell you that you should do more off-the-cuff events like last night’s stream. I watched it today, and I love how you free-flowed, yet still gave valuable content.

@katrinamharrell, thank you writing about “even if no one is watching.” That is one thing that has had me hesitant, but your point about building a video library tells me that hesitation isn’t the way to go.

Even a yr later this post is still so relevant. As a new blogger I’m excited to learn so much @beblogalicious 2011. I see from this article that I don’t have to stress about the comments and just believe folks are reading.
